Biblical Concepts

There is no doubt that we are all prone to stumbling in our spiritual life due to the wrong concepts of theology which we have formed in our minds. This series is designed to discuss key spiritual concepts in a way that reveals and clarifies biblical truths and is comprehensible to the contemporary Arabic mind.

14 - This Is What Christians Believe

Author: Rev. Nasrallah Zakaria
Publisher: Vision For Future (year)

The elimination of the history of the Coptic Orthodox era from history books in Egypt, and the forgetting of the seven centuries when the Library of Alexandria represented the pinnacle of Christian thought in the world, has led to complete ignorance, and a lack of knowledge concerning everything related to Christianity. In addition, in our own day, media have continued to deliberately distort the Christian faith through unfair and subjective criticism. This was especially true after former President Sadat attempted to Islamize the country while suppressing the leftist and Nasserite movements, resulting in a profound impact on the church, and alienating it from its Muslim-majority neighbors and societal context.

Therefore, it is necessary for theologians to simplify and describe the basics of the Christian faith, in a language that can be understood by the man on the street, and by ordinary people. In this book, the writer presents a contemporary Eastern point of view on a variety of controversial issues which tend to get raised by critics of Middle-Eastern Christianity.

He answers questions faced by Christians, especially those that relate to theological matters, and he does so in an exciting and simple way which is accessible to both ordinary people and the cultured. The topics he covers include:
• What is the concept of revelation in Christianity? Is the bible a revelation of God or written by men? What is the importance of different bible translations?
• Does the Trinitarian dogma differ from the Trinity?
• Do Christians worship three Gods? How can Christ be God?
• Can God become a man?
• What is a Person? What is the difference between the absolute unity and the universal unity?
• What is sin and how it came into the world? How has man inherited the sins of our forefathers? How has God provided us salvation?
• Are there any ordinances in Christianity?
• What will happen at the end of the world?
• Will Christ come again?

The writer answers all of these questions and others, doing so out of his obedience to Jesus Christ's commandment, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15).
